We live in a built-up area in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, and have a small back garden which is home to five cute Old English Game Bantams. They wander around our enclosed plot lifting their legs high like the ‘ministry of funny walks’.

We have named them: Bluey, Chocolate spot, Lacey, Red Breast and Freckles, and they enjoy looking for bugs and other unwelcome visitors as they meander free. These little fowls will provide some eggs for us in spring and summer. I would recommend keeping this variety of bantam if you have limited space – they are ideal.

So, if you want some sweet little friends in your garden who will supply you with an ‘egg or two’ for your breakfast, choose these amiable bantams and enjoy their company.
