November 2007: Emus have been removed from the list of animals requiring a Dangerous Wild Animals Licence.
But Leicestershire breeder Margaret Dover has given some advice to prospective owners. “They will not come to attack you but, if you do frighten them or corner them, they will, like any other animal, protect themselves; they do this by kicking,” she said.“Although I am delighted that emus have been removed from the list, I sincerely hope that prospective owners will do their homework and find out about the nature and needs of the animal before purchasing.”
