November 2007: As climate change climbs to the top of the agenda, England’s forests and woodlands have a key role to play providing wood as an alternative and less polluting source of fuel and sustainable carbon sinks locking up harmful greenhouse gases, say property consultants Smiths Gore.

The Forestry Commission has recently launched its woodfuel strategy, aiming to bring an additional two million tonnes into the market by 2020 through focusing on potential wood resource in the 60% of England’s woods that are presently under-managed.“Clearly the sustainable management of our woodland has an important role to play in our economy while helping to counter climate change and maintain biodiversity over the coming decades,” say Smiths Gore.
