As World Oceans Day approaches, the sea very much needs us to look after it, says the curator of a new photo book.

Shutter Hub Editions is proud to announce the release of TO THE SEA, a photo book featuring breathtaking images of the ocean from over 80 international photographers. Set to launch this World Oceans Day, 8th June 2025, this collection captures a diverse range of visual storytelling, offering a compelling look at the sea in all its beauty, complexity, and significance.

World Oceans Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness of the critical role our oceans play in sustaining life on Earth. By releasing TO THE SEA on this important day, Shutter Hub aims to inspire reflection on the ocean’s vast influence, from personal memories to pressing environmental concerns.

TO THE SEA not only celebrates the sea’s beauty but also serves as a poignant reminder of the need for its protection. TO THE SEA brings together a wide spectrum of perspectives, highlighting striking moments and evocative compositions that span themes of nature, human connection, and environmental urgency. With a carefully curated selection of 100 images,TO THE SEA invites readers to experience the sea through the lenses of some of today’s most. innovative photographers.

“We reminisce on childhood holidays and collecting seashells, dog walks on the beach, and the soothing sound of gently lapping waves. But we must remember, although it’s bigger than all of us, vast and powerful, the sea very much needs us to look after it. As climate change imposes more circumstantial realities on us, the sea becomes ever more important in our everyday lives,” says Karen Harvey MBE, founder of Shutter Hub and curator of TO THE SEA.

Karen’s photos are often to be seen within The Country Smallholder magazine. An accompanying open-air exhibition, (Return)To The Sea, is currently showing on the beachfront in Worthing, and will remain until the Autumn. This exhibition follows on from the year-long exhibition of To The Sea in the French coastal town of St Gilles Croix-de-Vie.

In line with the book’s environmental message,TO THE SEA has been produced as sustainably as possible and printed in the UK on uncoated recycled paper.
