North Wales: surprisingly good transport links, great community and breathtaking natural beauty

Our regular column exploring the best places for smallholder living highlights what North Wales has to offer.

While remote, relaxing and peaceful, North Wales is very much in touch with the modern world with excellent road links. There is easy access to the A55 express way – an hour to Holyhead or half an hour to Chester. It’s also close to the Offas Dyke Path and the North Wales Coastal Path and miles of beaches.

Our featured property this month is nearest to the village of Bodfari which is a charming village nestled in the heart of the stunning North Wales countryside. Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, the area is characterised by rolling hills, lush farmland, and captivating views that stretch for miles. With its peaceful rural setting, Bodfari offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life while maintaining convenient access to nearby towns and amenities. The village boasts a rich history, attracting walkers and outdoor enthusiasts year round. Local highlights include traditional stone cottages, a welcoming community, and a quaint village pub, offering a perfect blend of countryside charm and modern comforts.

Bodfari is an ideal location for those seeking a lifestyle that embraces nature, privacy, and serenity, all within reach of larger market towns such as Denbigh and Mold, as well as excellent road and railway links to Chester and beyond. Caerwys, at approximately 3 miles away, boasts two pubs/restaurants, small supermarket, a prize-winning delicatessen, Post Office, pharmacy, vets, church and chapel. Also in the area are a library van and take away pizza van at weekends, football and darts teams and a large playing field and bowling green. WI and historical society, yoga and kick boxing and hair dresser. There are theatres at Mold, Rhyl and Llandudno and a cinema at Rhyl.
