There’s still time for Scottish schools to apply for the Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) Meat Voucher Scheme and access up to £180 worth of vouchers to spend with their local Scotch Butcher Club member.

As schools across Scotland continue to embrace learning in the classroom, the QMS Meat Voucher Scheme offers a fantastic opportunity to introduce Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb, and Specially Selected Pork to students.

Last year, over 300 schools benefitted from the scheme, successfully incorporating premium red meat into educational activities and enhancing pupils’ diets. Schools are now invited to apply and take full advantage of these valuable resources. The scheme also offers a wealth of recipe ideas and educational materials designed to inspire both students and teachers.

A key highlight of this year’s programme is the chance for schools to request the support of QMS Ambassadors. These experts will participate in on-farm food and farming events, classroom sessions, cookery demonstrations, and more. Their knowledge and enthusiasm bring valuable insights into Scottish farming and food production, enriching the educational experience for all involved.

Tracy Martin, Health and Education Coordinator at QMS, said: “We’re excited to offer schools the chance to access even more than just vouchers this year. By welcoming QMS Ambassadors into the classroom and making use of our extensive educational resources, students will gain a deeper understanding of Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb, and Specially Selected Pork. Our goal is to inspire the next generation to not only appreciate the nutritional benefits of these products but also to consider careers in the food and farming sectors.”

This is a unique opportunity to bring quality, locally sourced meat into the classroom and inspire students with hands-on learning experiences. The Meat Voucher Scheme will also spotlight Tasty Little Beef Week, a central part of this year’s programme, dedicated to celebrating the quality and versatility of Scotch Beef. Running from 10–14 February 2025, this week will give schools the chance to explore the benefits of locally sourced Scotch Beef, engage in fun activities, and learn about sustainable farming practices.

Teachers are encouraged to apply now to ensure they don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity. Visit farmingfoodsteps.co.uk to access QMS’s educational materials and apply for your vouchers before the application window closes on Friday 31 January 2025. Vouchers must be redeemed by 14 February 2025.
