Cattle, sheep and goat classes at this weekend’s Gransden Show have been cancelled due to regional bluetongue virus restrictions.
The show’s organisers said in a Facebook post:
‘Due to recent bluetongue virus restrictions in Cambridgeshire, now part of a restricted zone along with much of the East of England, the movement of cattle, sheep, and goats in and out of the area is prohibited. As a result, competitors in the cattle, sheep, and goat classes will be unable to bring their animals to the Gransden Show this year.
‘We understand the disappointment this may cause and will be offering a refund of entry fees to all affected livestock competitors. To request your refund, please contact our events manager at info@gransdenshow.org.uk after the show.
‘However, we’re pleased to confirm that the Pig classes will still go ahead as planned.
‘Additionally, we have some exciting extra entertainment lined up, including a BMX stunt show and a ferret show, ensuring a fun-filled day for everyone!
‘While sheep, goats and cattle cannot be present, livestock competitors are still warmly invited to attend and enjoy the event using their entrance tickets.
‘Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you at the show.’
The 2024 Gransden Show will be held on Saturday 28th September at the Show Field, Caxton Road, Great Gransden, Cambs.
