Ebay are taking down adverts for hatching eggs as they classify them as ‘live animals’.
An ebay agent told The Country Smallholder that this policy is only being enforced in the UK and was changed on March 20th.
The ban is on nearly all live animal sales, including fish, invertebrates, and their eggs but are allowing approved live fish, bait, bees, crickets, and ladybugs when shipped in compliance with shipping carrier requirements.
The Poultry Club have said: “While we recognise that decisions made by platforms like eBay are beyond our control, The Poultry Club remains a vital network for those wishing to breed and preserve pure breed poultry. We continue to encourage responsible breeding and the ethical exchange of hatching eggs and stock through private, regulated channels.
“The Poultry Club serves as a trusted hub for fanciers, supporting the conservation of rare and traditional breeds. We are proud to align ourselves with initiatives such as the Rare Breeds Survival Trust’s new Poultry Watch List, which further highlights the importance of protecting genetic diversity in British poultry.”
Meanwhile those with hatching eggs are looking for an outlet to get their eggs out to would-be breeders – watch this space when we know more.
