Visitors to next month’s Royal Bath & West Show have been promised plenty of food-themed action, with fresh produce available to buy and live cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs to delight the tastebuds.
“The West Country is well known for having an array of brilliant produce, and celebrating this journey from farm to fork is what the show is all about,” says head of shows, Jess Chiplen. “Food lovers will be in heaven with all the variety of produce on offer – there is something to suit every appetite.”
Small producer’s market
New to the show this year is the small producer’s market, which will be showcasing the very best of the region’s smaller producers. Artisanal products will be given their time to shine, so make sure to browse the stalls and discover the unique and high-quality products on offer.
With the long history of cider-making in the South West, of course there will be plenty to go round, as well as cider-making demonstrations and tutored tasting sessions. “Visitors won’t want to miss the judging of the British Cider Championships; the biggest cider competition in the UK – with an opportunity to get involved in the People’s Choice Award taking place each day,” says Ms Chiplen. So whether you’re a professional cider-maker, a passionate amateur, or someone who just loves cider, there’ll be something to suit you.
South Paddocks produce
South Paddocks Farm’s ‘plum pudding pig’, more commonly known as Oxford Sandy & Blacks, are born, raised and finished on the farm in Dorset.
The breed’s traditional, slow maturing rate makes tasty and tender sausages which will be available to buy in the food and drink pavilion, alongside the farm’s homemade pork scratchings, pork pies, scotch eggs and quiches.
“We love the show and the support from fellow farmers and customers who have a farm to fork ethos,” says Katie Cooper from South Paddocks Farm. “Answering questions about our livestock and how we make our products is enjoyable – lots of people can’t believe we do it all ourselves.”
Great British Kitchen
As ever, the show will feature live cooking demonstrations from a range of celebrity chefs, from a smoky BBQ expert to tips and tricks for the best summer cocktails.
Founder and chef at Big Naths BBQ, Nathan Ritchie, is usually found on the streets of Bristol making the people’s BBQ dreams come true. “We are all about smoking, using those American techniques but with all the best local British produce,” he says. “We’re really excited to be a part of the show this year, cooking, talking and feasting. Food is about people after all!”
The Great British Kitchen promises to be the perfect place to pick up new cooking skills and indulge in the incredible flavours on offer, all while enjoying the atmosphere of a true celebration of food.
