The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) reports that bluetongue has been confirmed in a sixth individual animal on a premises linked to one of the holdings within the 10km Temporary Control Zone (TCZ) near Canterbury, Kent.

Following active surveillance of premises linked to cases within the 10km temporary control zone (TCZ), a further case of bluetongue serotype 3 in cattle has been identified. This animal was until recently grazing on a premises outside the TCZ.

In response to this new finding, the TCZ has been extended to minimise spread of disease. Please check the bluetongue interactive map for details. Investigations continue to determine if there has been any local spread.

The APHA urges livestock keepers to remain vigilant and follow the restrictions on animal movements.
