More than 1,500 groups have already signed up to an initiative to help people grow their own organic food and care more for their environment.Every Action Counts is a three-year initiative to empower communities across England to take simple everyday action on the environment.  The programme has the full support of the Environment Minister, Hilary Benn, and falls into five key areas: saving energy, saving resources, shopping ethically, travelling wisely and caring for your neighbourhood.Recent figures suggest sales of organic food have peaked, with some shoppers put off by the higher prices.Head of the project Mark Walton says: “We believe organic food to be preferable on environmental grounds but understand the squeeze on household budgets makes it difficult to afford. However, there are community organisations throughout England which are supporting people to grow their own. This is good nutritionally, inexpensive, good for the environment, and takes very few food miles.”Every Action Counts offers advice to people wishing to start a community organic gardening group or similar project.MORE: Visit www.everyactioncounts.org.uk where you can sign up and register.
