FEBRUARY 2, 2008: There are now estimated to be 300,000 migrant temporary workers employed in the UK agricultural industry – and fines for employing illegal immigrants are set to double on February 28.

Employers will face a fine of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker they employ.Local councils, police forces and the Border & Immigration Agency are increasing the frequency of surprise checks to ensure workers have the right to work in the UK.
