Veteran CS columnists Alan and Rosie Beat were runners up in the south west region of the Future of Farming Awards organised by Natural England. The Awards recognise innovative farmers who have successfully integrated the management of biodiversity, landscape and access with the main business of their farms. Alan and Rosie, whose 16 acre smallholding in Devon was highly commended, said: “We are proud to think that, so far this year, some 45 school and adult groups have visited us – that is around 1,000 youngsters who have experienced what an organic smallholding can offer.”
