Oct 23, 2012: Catherine Ellwood and Amanda Miller, from Gloucester, thoroughly enjoyed their prize in a Country Smallholding competition – a weekend course at Kate Humble’s farm in the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire.
The pair won the �350 prize, including accommodation, in a competition in our August issue. They chose the General Smallholding course. Amanda, pictured right, said they were overjoyed to win the prize, which has helped them as they get started in smallhollding. “We had a wonderful opportunity to share our stories with like-minded people at various stages along the smallholding journey,” said Amanda. Catherine said: “The course confirmed for me that this is something I would love doing, and helped me gain confidence. “In our competition answer we said we needed financial advice. The day has given us good direction towards sources of this information, so we are feeling less overwhelmed by the whole idea.” Kate and her husband Ludo offer a wide range of courses the courses, with help from CS writer Liz Shankland.
