November 2007: A project in Cornwall is promoting the restoration of heathland through traditional management.

The FWAG project also involves the repair of Cornish hedges and building new ones. Conservation grazing is being enabled through installation of fences, access gates and cattle grids. Firebreaks are also being built, scrub cleared, rough grazing reintroduced and the heather re-seeded.The project – linked to a Europe-wide heathland initiative – encompasses wider aims such as the protection and enhancement of wildlife and bio-diversity value and the ability to provide local schools and communities with learning resources.
