The British Hen Welfare Trust are helping to rehome hens

Easter doesn’t have to be all about eating chocolate – save some calories and indulge in a spring bonnet instead.

These lucky ladies, all re-homed by the British Hen Welfare Trust, have got their very own natural bonnet and don’t they look beautiful for it?

Hen combs come in all shapes and sizes but having an over-sized one means these hens won’t have to make their own this Easter.

Each year people don bonnets to celebrate the religious holiday, representing the tradition of wearing new clothes at Easter to celebrate the end of Lent.

Francesca Taffs, Marketing Officer at the BHWT, said: “These hens been given the chance to live out a free range retirement and have blossomed into beautiful birds with unique combs. More used to laying eggs for us to buy in the supermarket, they are now much-loved family pets enjoying the good life in sunny back gardens.”

If these photos have inspired you to get your own hens, the BHWT has lots of re-homings coming up in April and May in the following locations:

Saturday, 22 April: Devon (South Zeal)

Sunday, 23 April: Hampshire, Cornwall (Redruth and Liskeard), Somerset, Dorset
