The countdown is on to the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch 2023. Described as ‘the UK’s biggest citizen science wildlife survey’ – the event will take place from 27-29 January and the RSPB is urging you to ‘play your part’.

Simply count the birds you see from your garden, balcony or local park for an hour, then go online to record what you saw. You can ‘watch from inside with a cuppa or wrap-up warm and sit quietly with the birds outside’. Check the RSPB’s how-to page for a step-by-step guide.

Over at and you will find advice on how to ensure you provide wild birds with the nourishment they need this January.

Visit to help identify your feathered friends and if you refer to the 2022 results, you can see which birds were spotted the most last year.

Big Garden Birdwatch Live will stream across the event weekend. Tune in for expert commentary, interviews and chat with special guests and wildlife experts from across the UK.
