Viewers can catch Stepney City Farm on BBC iPlayer, after it featured on a popular TV programme.
Last year, over a couple of extremely hot summer days, a BBC film crew visited the Farm to film an episode of The Farmers’ Country Showdown. They followed two Stepney staff, farmer Tom and livestock assistant Skippy, around the Farm as they prepared some rare breed sheep to show at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, south London.
They also spent a day at Surrey Docks Farm, another city farm in Rotherhithe, with whom Stepney City Farm has a great relationship. Both farms brought their sheep to the show and (spoiler alert!) may have won a few prizes.
The BBC did a great job highlighting the good work city farms do in enabling local communities a space to come and learn about farming and discover the benefits of visiting, volunteering, and just enjoying the fact that spaces like this exist in modern cities.
