AUGUST 21, 2009: Somalis who live in British cities are being given the chance to sample traditional rural life on a Welsh hill farm.

An unlikely partnership offers youngsters the chance to re-create the sense of a Somalian settlement at the farm at New Radnor. The idea is the brainchild of farm owner Hamish Wilson, who was partly brought up in Africa and was deeply affected by life in Somalia. The Degemo Centre for Somali Heritage and Rural Life is now working with the Soil Association to help low-income families visit the farm. There are also plans to replicate the model with other ethnic minority groups in the UK.
