Bird flu confirmed in West Yorkshire

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) reports that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1, otherwise known as bird flu, has been confirmed in poultry near Ravensthorpe, Kirklees, West Yorkshire.

A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been put in place and all poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory biosecurity measures is also in force across Great Britain.

The APHA advises all bird keepers to remain vigilant & follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks. More info, including the restrictions in the zone is available on GOV.UK.

Definitive requirements are set out in the published declarations for each disease control zone currently in force. More information is available on GOV.UK.

You can also check if specific areas are in a zone by using Defra’s interactive map.
