Aberdeen-based rare breeds champion Alice Lennox has joined the Rare Breeds SurvivalTrust (RBST) staff team in the new role of RBST Scottish Co-ordinator.

Alice will work throughout Scotland to promote and conserve the UK’s rare native livestock and equine breeds and to support RBST members in Scotland in their work with these important animals.

Alice has a long association with the UK’s rare and native livestock and equine breeds having grown up on, and later helped run her family’s RBST-approved farm park Doonies Rare Breeds Farm near Aberdeen.

Alice won the Rare Breeds Champion of the Year award in the 2023 RBST Scotland Food and Farming Sustainability Awards for her work at Doonies from 1993 until the park’s closure in 2023, and for her decade of volunteering with RBST support groups in Scotland.

RBST engages with politicians and policy makers on key issues which affect keepers of rare and native breeds across Scotland including agricultural and environmental support schemes, land management policies, and the need for investment into the small abattoir network.

The role of RBST Scottish Co-ordinator will include influencing politicians and policy makers as well as working with RBST members, breed societies and other stakeholders; managing events; supporting applications for funding; and advising on conservation projects.

SAVE THE DATE: The RBST Scotland Conference will return in 2025, with an exciting programme of top tier speakers exploring the key topical sustainable farming issues. The conference will take place on 31st July, look out in the coming weeks for more details about the event and speaker programme.
