The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) reports that following official testing, three further cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 have been confirmed.

  • In commercial poultry at a premises near Dereham, Norfolk. All poultry on the infected premises will be humanely culled.
  • At a second premises near Watton, Mid Norfolk, Norfolk (this was the slaughter on suspicion case initially declared on 09 December 2024). Following further testing,  highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed and now becomes AIV 2024/06. All poultry on the premises have been humanely culled. The 3km temporary control zone A and a 10km surveillance zone have been revoked and replaced by a 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone
  • At a premises near Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire. All poultry on the infected premises will be humanely culled.

3km Protection Zones and 10km Surveillance Zones have been put in place around each premises.

The APHA advises that all bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks. More information is available on GOV.UK.

Control zone extended in Watson, Norfolk, for further bird flu testing
