Restriction Zone extended as further cases of bluetongue virus confirmed

The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) reports that the Temporary Control Zone has been lifted and replaced with an extended Restricted Zone (RZ) covering East Riding of Yorkshire, City of Kingston upon Hull and part of Lincolnshire.

This follows the detection of further cases of bluetongue virus BTV-3 in the East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area and indications of local transmission.

The RZ in Kent has also been extended to cover all of Kent, East Sussex and more of Greater London East following the detection of more cases.

Keepers of cattle, sheep, camelids and other ruminants must remain vigilant and follow the restrictions on animal and germinal product movements that apply. See the bluetongue interactive map and GOV.UK for more information and to see what steps you must take to prevent and control the disease.

East Riding of Yorkshire & Lincolnshire have also been designated High-Risk counties meaning keepers in the parts of Lincolnshire not covered by the RZ are eligible for free testing & farmers in these counties are eligible to vaccinate their animals using the new general licence: See GOV.UK.

More information about BTV-3 vaccinations is also available onGOV.UK.
