The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) reports that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1, colloquially known as bird flu, was confirmed in commercial poultry on 27 November 2023 at a premises near Wooler, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland. A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been declared around the premises.
The APHA advises that all bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks. More information is available on GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/bird-flu.
